National GumDrop Day

February 15th is National GumDrop Day. Gumdrops have been a worldwide favorite candy for years. Now, Gummy Bears which are made of the same gelatin-like substance are more popular than  Gumdrops. 


Recipe of the Day: GumDrop Cookies



Gumdrop Cookie Recipe

This is an old fashioned cookie. Kids will enjoy the gumdrop pieces inside each cookie.
Yield: 4-6 dozen

Gumdrop Cookie Ingredients:
  • 1 cup Shortening
  • 1 cup Granulated Sugar
  • 1 cup shredded Coconut
  • 2 cups uncooked Oatmeal
  • 1 tsp. Baking Soda
  • 1 cup Brown Sugar
  • 2 cups All-Purpose Flour
  • 2 Eggs, beaten
  • 1/2 tsp. Baking Powder
  • 1 lb. Gumdrops, cut into small pieces and floured
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Lightly grease a cookie sheet.
  3. Cream shortening and sugar until fluffy.
  4. Add eggs.
  5. In a separate bowl, mix together all dry ingredients, except coconut, gumdrops and oatmeal..
  6. Mix dry ingredients into batter.
  7. Add coconut, gumdrops and oatmeal.
  8. Drop teaspoonful of dough onto greased cookie sheet.
  9. Bake for 10-12 minutes, until edges of cookie are brown.
  10. Remove cookies and place on a wire rack to cool.
